Alice and Jackie were trained at the Swift Current Public Library on using and understanding their digital cameras better. I showed them how to use the marco setting, timer setting, and the different flash settings. I showed them how to use the movie button on their cameras to take a short video. I showed them how to zoom in on their pictures in review mode, and how to see their pictures as thumbnails in review mode. We talked about the different between digital zoom and optical zoom.

Gary was trained at the Swift Current Public Library on updating his GPS on the computer. We went to the companies website to download the update. We had to create an account on the website and register the GPS system. Once we were on the site we were able to find the GPS update and start downloading.

Lorraine and friend were trained at the Swift Current Public Library on taking pictures off of their digital cameras. We learned how to copy pictures from the digital cameras and them paste them into new folders made in the My Pictures section on the computer. I showed them how to select more than one pictures using the shift and ctrl buttons on the keyboard. I showed them what the right click button is for on the mouse.

We showed her how to push the shutter button down halfway to focus, and the rest of the way to take the picture. We learned how to use different settings and features including flash, zoom, macro, and self-timer. We taught her how to take a video, and how to mute or unmute her camera. We showed her how to use the review mode to see her pictures and videos, as well as how to delete them.

The scene modes help to take pictures of snow, landscapes, people and flowers better. I showed her how to change the view of the pictures in the review mode so that she could see more than one pictures at one time. I showed her how to change her camera to the macro setting so that she would be able to take pictures of things close up. I showed her how to change the flash on the camera so that she could turn it on and off on her own.

We talked about online banking and whether or not it is safe and easy to do, she decided that online banking is something that she is going to look into trying to do. He is going to buy a camera soon, and wanted to be well informed in order to decide which camera to buy. We talked about megapixels, optical vs. digital zoom, shutter speed, battery types, viewfinders, screen size, in camera editing, memory cards, and camera cases. We discussed the different scene options available. We told him about pressing down the shutter button halfway to focus the picture, and the whole way to take the picture.

Addie was trained at the Swift Current Public Library on digital cameras. I showed her how to focus her camera by pushing the shutter button half way down. We learned how to use the macro feature, self timer feature, and the flash. I showed her how to use the smile detector on her camera. You select the smile on the wheel on top of the camera and push the shutter button half way down. You wait for the person to smile and then the camera takes the picture on its own when it notices that the person in the picture is smiling.

Digital Camera Class - Jan. 10, 2009
Three people attended the Digital Camera Class at the Swift Current Public Library. They were all familiar with how to use the auto setting to take a picture on their camera. So we learned about the different settings on the camera, including how and when to use them. We were able to discuss problems and questions the students had about their cameras, and discover ways to take better pictures. We learned about using the macro feature, flash settings, and single/monitor auto focus. We learned how to take and edit a video, and about using various scene modes such as portrait, twilight, night portrait, landscape, snow, etc. We also showed them how to put their pictures onto the computer.

We worked on edit the picture in Microsoft Photo Editor. We added the picture into the word document. We also worked on using text boxes and changing their size and location.

Six people attended the Digital Camera Class at the Swift Current Public Library. We were able to show them the basic features of the camera and also show them some of the more advanced features. Everyone walked away having learned something. The students learned about using the macro feature on the camera for taking pictures really close. They learned how to use the timer on the camera. They learned about the different settings on the camera, like portrait, landscape and night mode. They also were shown how to take a video using the digital camera.
We showed them how to put their pictures onto the computer.
It was an enjoyable class of learning.

We made up some slides for a presentation using photos from her trip to Regina and Minneapolis. Then we spent most of our time having fun with animating slide transitions. We have a bunch of applications available for training, click here to find out more.

For Computer Training at the Library we have been focusing more on helping people who are coming in to use the public computers. I was able to help this lady save pictures that she recieved in a email from her family. She was then able to do what she needed to with the pictures. She was just unsure of where the pictures were being saved and where she could save them.
